Brazil - Immigration Visas


The Resolution nr. 1 (PDF file - in Portuguese only) establishes conditions for professors and researchers coming to Brazil to work either with the public service or with a private institution; in the former case, the application must be accompanied by proof of the act of admission in the public service; in the latter, the application must be accompanied by a contract.
If the term of the commitment is less than two years, the visa, if granted, will be temporary; if the term is over two years, the visa, if granted, will be permanent.
The Brazilian public or private institution which will receive the foreigner professor or researcher must fill a visa application with the Ministry of Labor; the Ministry of Labor may, if convenient, ask the Ministry of Science and Technology about the convenience of granting the visa.
The grantee of a temporary visa may request a permanent visa, if the period of staying is over two years.
