The Government of Brasilia, owner of the Stadium, plans to have it ready by December 2012, in time for the Stadium to host matches of the Confederations Cup 2013.

The stadium will have a central location in Brasilia; in the above artistic image, it is possible to see the Brasilia Television Tower in the background.
The name derives from the fact that several National buildings are located in Brasilia, such as the National Congress, National Theatre, National Library, National Museum.
The National Stadium will be a renovation of current Mane Garrincha Stadium.
