Minas Gerais is one of the largest Brazilian States (in area, population and production); because of this, it´s one of the States with the largest number of Universities.
Below, a list of universities and other superior learning institutions in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Public Institutions

UFMG - Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Largest university in Minas Gerais. Main campus in Belo Horizonte and a rural campus in Montes Claros.
Universidade Federal de Lavras. In the city of Lavras, south of the State.
Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto. In the historic city of Ouro Preto.
Universidade Federal de Uberlândia. In the city of Uberlândia, western part of the State.
Universidade Federal de Viçosa.
Universidade Federal de Itajubá. In Itajubá, near the border with São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Focused on Engineering courses.
Universidade Federal de Alfenas. Courses of Pharmacy and Dentistry only.
Federal Faculties in Diamantina. Located in the historic city of Diamantina. Dentistry only.
