Brazil Football Team in 2007
Below, some of the major events about the Brazil Men’s Football team in 2007.
- July 16th. The Brazilian team beat Argentina by 3×0 yesterday and became champion of the America Cup 2007, which took place in Venezuela.
The victory was a pleasant surprise to Brazilians. Brazil didn’t bring the best team to Venezuela; Ronaldinho and Kaká, the two most important players of the team nowadays, asked to be dismissed, saying they were tired after the demanding European season; Zé Roberto, who was playing in Brazil, said that he was too old to play for the Brazilian team, and also asked to be dismissed (for good).
So, the Brazilian line-up in the final match was (photo below):

Alex, Julio Batista, Juan, Maicon, Doni and Gilberto;
Elano (Daniel Alves), Robinho (Diego), Wagner Love (Fernando), Josué and Mineiro.
Coach: Dunga.
Goals: Julio Batista (4′), Ayala (39′), Daniel Alves (68′).
For Argentina, the defeat was a big deception. Argentina had lost the America Cup to Brazil in 2004, and had lost Confederation Cup to Brazil in 2005. So, Argentina decided to bring their best team to beat Brazil this time; in the final match, Argentina played with Abbondanzieri, Zanetti, Ayala, Gabriel Milito, Heinze, Mascherano, Cambiasso (Aimar), Verón (Lucho González), Riquelme, Messi, Tevez; coach: Alfio Basile.
Even Brazilians considered Argentina to be the favorite to win the Cup, but Brazilians played better the final match and deserved the victory.
