Official website: Sao Jose dos Campos
One of the most important cities in Sao Paulo.
It lies about 120 km East from Sao Paulo; it´s cut across by Via Dutra, the highway which connects Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, the two most important Brazilian cities.
In 1950, Sao Jose was the place chosen for the construction of the Brazilian Aerospace Center, which comprehended research and learning institutions; for example, the Instituto Tecnologico de Aeronautica is today one of the most respected Brazilian schools of Engineering.
This combination of privileged localization and presence of skilled work force contributed to turn Sao Jose dos Campos into one of the most important industrial and techonological cities in Brazil. Embraer and most of Brazilian aerospace companies are here; also, to name a few, the following corporations have plants in Sao Jose and neighbourhood: Petrobras, Johnson and Johnson, Kodak, Fuji, Pilkington, Kaiser (Brazilian beer), Panasonic, Eaton, General Motors, Ford.
The population has an average income higher than Brazil; a infrastructure of commerce and services was created to cater for both these local consumers and the growing number of visitors.
